In 1997, in Romania, the National Oil Society "Petrom" J.S.C. was found.  In 2004, 51% share of  „Petrom" J.S.C. were purchased by OMV Austrian Petroleum Group. Making up outside additional reserves acquisitions for the existent local reserves, is one of the Petrom international strategy aspect.

Thus, by starting trans-bordering activities like natural gas and oilfields exploration and exploitation, managing sounding and refining operations, granting technical support services, the company is spreading its geographical area.
